Description
Inspired by the true story of Obi, a hunting dog who lost a leg in a car accident. Guided by their teachers and an engineer, primary school students designed and built a prosthetic leg for him. As they explored prosthetics, 3D printing and problem-solving, they also discovered the deeper meaning of friendship. This nonfiction children’s book celebrates compassion, care for animals and the difference a community can make together.
The story behind the book
A collaboration between NTSomnii, Foley’s School and Lighthouse Private School. Students took part in the journey and helped write the story.
Their involvement went beyond reading about Obi. They explored prosthetic leg ideas through 3D design, met professionals and learned how knowledge, problem-solving and compassion can work together. Guided by teachers and an engineer, the project connected a real animal’s needs with purposeful learning.
Writing the book gave students a way to share that experience. Obi’s story invites readers to reflect on friendship, resilience, inclusion and responsibility towards animals, and to see how a caring community can make a difference.
