Description
A nonfiction children’s book about Blake, a dog who lost a leg in a car accident. Primary school students, their teacher and an engineer built a prosthetic leg for him while learning about prosthetics and 3D printing. Blake’s story celebrates care, compassion and community, showing how teamwork, inclusivity and technology can help animals and turn kindness into action.
The story behind the book
A collaboration between NTSomnii and Lighthouse Private School, with students at the heart of the project.
Blake’s real story became an opportunity to connect classroom learning with care for an animal in need. Working alongside their teacher and an engineer, primary school students explored prosthetics and 3D printing and helped build a prosthetic leg for Blake.
The book brings that journey to young readers through themes of courage, compassion, teamwork and inclusion. It offers families and classrooms a starting point for talking about how technology can help others, why animals deserve care and what people can achieve together.
